Continuing with my nostalgic zombie apocalypse movie watching binge, I decided I needed to rewatch Shaun of the Dead for the umpteenth time.
If there is one take away from this movie, it’s – Shut the @#&^%*$ door!
I’m a fan of Simon Pegg. I like his movies. Hot Fuzz, The World’s End and the Mission Impossible series but this one is still my favorite. Maybe it has something to do with the zombies in it.
This British horror movie as its referenced should be re-titled as a horror-comedy. Much like the movie, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, there is far more haha moments than actual horror.
The main character, Shaun, loves the local town pub bar so much it causes him and the love of his life to break up. From here we see how mundane his life is. He’s so accustomed to his daily 9-5 routine he runs through his day completely oblivious to his surroundings as zombies are seen wandering all around him.
Once he finally realizes what is happening, he decides he needs to rescue his now ex-girlfriend. The kicker, the master plan is to go to the Winchester. The same pub that caused the initial split-up between him and his girlfriend.
Shaun springs into action along with his slacker/moocher best friend, Ed, to not only save Liz but also his mother, step-father (he’s NOT my dad) and a few others.
The flesh eating zombies in this movie will make you chuckle. A favorite is the “drunk woman in the back yard”. You can’t help but laugh. Spoiler, she turns out to be a zombie.
So where did I leave off.. Shaun, Liz, Winchester.
I think I’ll end it here. If you haven’t seen this movie, you have missed a classic zombie movie. If you have seen it, ask yourself, when was the last time. If its been a while, its worth rewatching (without commercial breaks please).
